The commitment comes at a critical time as global energy markets face volatility, and Saudi Arabia, a leading oil producer, plays a pivotal role in stabilizing these markets. The Crown Prince’s reassurance is a significant gesture towards sustaining Japan’s energy security, especially after he had to postpone his planned visit to Japan due to the health concerns of King Salman.
During their conversation, Prime Minister Kishida emphasized the importance of Saudi Arabia’s continued leadership in the global oil market, suggesting that further production increases could be beneficial. Concurrently, the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 Business Forum took place in Tokyo, highlighting the strong bilateral relations between the two nations. The forum saw key Saudi figures, including Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih, engage with Japanese counterparts to discuss future collaborations in energy and various other sectors.
Japanese Industry Minister Ken Saito underscored the strategic importance of Saudi Arabia as Japan’s primary crude oil provider and a vital partner in energy security. The forum concluded with the signing of over 30 memorandums of understanding, spanning energy, finance, and manufacturing sectors. Notably, the Saudi Power Procurement Company announced agreements with a Japanese-led consortium to develop significant wind energy projects in Saudi Arabia, marking a step forward in their clean energy ambitions.
